Spring League Q&A

What nights does the spring league play?

It all depends on ice availability! Generally, games are held on weekdays, as we aim to avoid weekends. The playoffs follow a tournament-style format similar to the World Juniors, leading up to the May long weekend, with the league wrapping up by the Thursday before May long.

What if my player has conflicts with Football, baseball, or soccer?

There will be times when players need to choose if they’re participating in our spring league or other activities. On the bright side, these conflicts typically occur during the last two weeks of the season.

When will the schedule and team rosters be released?

Schedules and rosters will be released two weeks before the start of the league, which begins on the second Monday of April. Even when the league reaches full capacity, registration remains open for those on the waitlist or for last-minute registrations up to one month before the start. After that, I’ll work with coaches to finalize the team rosters.

How do I determine the appropriate division for my player if I’m not local to Brandon?

Deciding on a division can be tricky. The divisions are designed to ensure there are enough participants in the league. Although there can be noticeable differences in size and strength by age, skill levels often aren’t far apart. If your player could fit into two divisions, I suggest opting for the lower division to encourage their confidence. However, some parents like to give their players the challenge of playing with older kids.

The divisions are as follows:

  • U16 Division: Combines U13 Major rep players, U15 house players, U15 A and 15-year-olds playing high school. (non-contact)
  • Division 1: Combines U13 house players, U13 A minor players and U11 A1 players
  • Division 2: Combines U11 house players and U9 A1 players
  • Division 3: Combines U9 A2 players and U7 players

Are practices part of the league?

No, practices! This is a game-only league.

Can I receive a refund?

Yes, refunds are allowed up until a week prior to our start date. After that, no refunds will be issued with no exceptions!

What are the odds of joining if I’m on the waitlist?

I always aim to make space for everyone. Whether you can join largely depends on how many goalies are available. If we have enough players, goalies, and ice, we’ll try to add more teams.

What time are the games?

Game times are 4:30, 5:30, 6:30, 7:30 & 8:30 PM. Typically, we aim to put the youngest (division 3) in the early games, and the older divisions (U16) later into the evening. We will try our best to rotate the 4:30 PM game slot; this won’t be perfect!
